Alan Williams “I’m still playing for a job”

-Las Vegas

A few months ago the Phoenix Suns signed power forward Alan Williams to a 10-day contract. On March 8th, he turned that 10-day contract to a multi-year deal.

Williams has become the energetic leader of the Suns and his teammates look to him for just that. “Energy is a very important thing and coach needs me to do it and I’m doing. I think my team has been really great these first two games. Our bench especially and they are extremely active. When the bench is going like that we get on the court and it translates to something.”

Williams plays hard every possession and treats it like it’s his last. He’s still playing like a player that is searching for a team. “(I’m) still trying to fight for a job. It’s fun. Anytime you get a chance to compete it’s a lot of fun.” He continued, “(I want to) better myself and continue to prove my value to my team.”

“Just being out there and having a little bit of NBA experience professional experience throughout the whole year. I was really ready mentally this year.”

Williams said the Suns Rookies Marquese Chriss and Dragan Bender really brought the energy that they practiced with into the Summer League.

On Devin Booker he said, “I think he’s the best player playing in this thing right now. You can call me biased but a lot of people would agree. He scores the basketball at high level, he’s our leader on this team and he leads by example. I think you’re seeing a star in the making. He’s taken his game to the next level it’s unfair. His work ethic is crazy. He’s a tough, he’s a tough guard.

This time last year, Williams was trying to absorb all the information he could at Summer League. Now he’s teaching and trying to help his rookie teammates adjust. It’s just the natural step for the perfect team player.
