Around The Horn w/the Dbacks 05-24-2012
Phoenix – Arizona
The Arizona Diamondbacks followed up the previous week where they won 3 out of 7 games by winning 3 out of 6 games.
They won the series in Kansas City beating the Royals 2 out of 3 games before coming home and dropping 2 out of 3 games to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
But there were positives to take from the Dodgers series. The Diamondbacks bats have seemed to come alive the last two games in the series against the Dodgers scoring 7 runs in a loss on Tuesday night and 11 more runs on Wednesday night.
Wednesday night’s game saw Joe Saunders pitching match the hitting, as he only gave up a meaningless home run in the fourth inning and three more in the seventh inning, but they didn’t make a dent in the overall Diamondback performance.
Offensively, Willie Bloomquist continued to hit the cover off the ball going 3 – 6 with 2-singles and his second triple in the Dodgers series and he also scored three runs. Justin Upton got in on the act by connecting on an opposite filed 2-run home run.
Add to that, every Diamondback, pitcher included, had a hit Wednesday night. This could be a good sign going into an off day followed by the Milwaukee Brewers coming to town for three games.
Side Note: Josh Bell had Wednesday night off. On Wednesday night, The Diamondbacks scored a run or more in the first five innings. Wednesday night was only the second time this season the Diamondbacks have won by more than 5 runs, the only other time was against the Miami Marlins when they won 5 -0.
