Boise State F Tyson Degenhart named Mountain West Freshman of the Week

Boise State forward Tyson Degenhart was named the Mountain West Freshman of the Week for the third consecutive week.

The Spokane native earned it by helping the Broncos rally to beat Washington State 58-52 in his hometown at a neutral site. Bye scored nine of his 11 points in the second half as well as grab six rebounds. He also made a pair of free throws with a little over three minutes left in the game to seal the victory for Boise State.

Degenhart is averaging 8.8 points per game this season but since his minutes went up, starting with the Broncos’ 86-82 overtime loss against St. Louis, the freshman forward has scored at least 11 points in each of his last seven games. He scored a career high 21 points against Cal State Northridge on Dec. 7.

Degenhart has averaged 17.1 points per game in the month of December while Boise State has gone a perfect 6-0. The Broncos are 9-4 with wins over Temple, Ole Miss and Tulsa.

Degenhart joins Air Force’s Ethan Taylor as three-time award winners this year.

The Broncos close out the month and open the conference slate at home against Fresno State on Tuesday.
