Lawrence Phillips found dead in his cell

Former Nebraska Cornhusker and first round draft choice of the St. Louis Rams, Lawrence Phillips was found dead in his cell at Kern Valley State Prison in California.

Although the result of death is not official, the cause is believed to be suicide.

Phillips, who was 40-years old, was serving a 31-year sentence for driving his car into three teenagers and for abusing his ex-girlfriend.

While serving his prison time, Phillips was charged with murdering his cellmate Damion Soward who was found dead in their cell on April 11th, 2015.

Phillips was possibly facing the death penalty if he were found guilty for Soward’s murder.
