N’Keal Harry declares for the NFL

Last Saturday, the Arizona State Sun Devils made a miraculous comeback by scoring 20 unanswered points in Tucson Arizona against the Arizona Wildcats and turned a sure defeat into a 41 – 40 victory.

The game was emotional for the seniors as they beat their In-State and Conference rival in the game for the Territorial Cup. Not only did that victory guarantee the Sun Devils a winning season (7 – 5), but they leave with bragging rights knowing the Cup will be staying in Tempe.

But the seniors were not the only emotional players after that win. Sun Devils do everything junior wide receiver N’Keal Harry had a long embrace with Sun Devils quarterback Manny Wilkins and with Sun Devils cornerback and Chandler high school teammate Chase Lucas.

At that point many had the feeling that this might be the last time Harry would suit up for the Sun Devils.

Today at a press conference dubbed “An announcement about a Sun Devils player”, Harry stated, “This has been a great ride, a once in a lifetime opportunity, something I’ll take with me the rest of my life and with that being said, I’d like to forego my senior season and declare for the 2019 NFL draft.”

When Harry was asked when did he make up his mind to turn pro, he said, “I tried to wait ‘til after the last game was played. After the U of A game that’s when it became clear.”

Harry has not made up his mind if he’ll play in the upcoming yet to be determined Sun Devils Bowl game. Sun Devils head coach Herm Edwards stated that Harry will workout and prepare for the game and that decision will come later between he, athletic director Ray Anderson and Harry.

If the victory against U of A was his last game, Harry leaves with 213 receptions, 2,889 yards and 26 touchdowns (22 receiving, 3 rushing and 1 punt return).

“There are components when it comes to the draft”, Edwards said: “Skill set, height, weight and speed, competitiveness, are there any off field issues.” Edwards went on, “He prepares to win and competes. He checks every (positive) box.”

Wilkins said to Harry, “You will go down as a Sun Devils legend.”

“Since I’ve been a little kid I’ve loved this game so much I poured my heart and soul out to this game.. And now that I have the opportunity (to go pro), I need to go do that.”
