San Diego State F Keshad Johnson named Mountain West Player of the Week

The Mountain West announced on Monday San Diego State junior forward Keshad Johnson has been named the MWC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week and Air Force guard Jake Heidbreder was awarded with Freshman of the Week honors.

Johnson led San Diego State to a 62-55 win at UNLV this past Saturday to start conference play. He recorded a double-double with 10 points on 50 percent shooting and a season-high 11 rebounds.

This is the third time this season the junior forward has scored 10 or more points. He scored a season high 13 points in his previous game against UC San Diego.

This is Johnson’s first season as a starter for the Aztecs. He is averaging 6.7 points and 4.8 rebounds in 22.2 minutes per game.

The Aztecs went 8-3 in non-conference play including wins against Arizonan State and Georgetown. Their win against the Rebels gives them a head start in the loaded Mountain West. San Diego State hosts Nevada on Saturday.

Heidbreder earned Freshman of the Week after helping Air Force upset Utah State 49-47 in its MWC opener with 14 points and five rebounds.

Heidmreder is second among the Falcons in scoring with 9.2 points per game. He scored a total of 44 points in his last four games.

Air Force is one of five Mountain West teams with a perfect home record. The Falcons will try to whittle that number down to four when they travel to No. 20 Colorado State on Tuesday
